The Council of Delegates is the Ohio Bar’s own “house of representatives,” with 162 members, proportionally representing each Ohio Bar district around the state. One of the primary responsibilities of the Council of Delegates is to vet committee and section proposals and determine if they will become priority legislation for the Association, thereby empowering our government affairs team to take them to the Ohio General Assembly (and to Congress and/or the Ohio Supreme Court, if appropriate) to be adopted.
Over the years, thanks to solid proposals from Ohio Bar committees and sections and the Ohio Bar’s trusted reputation among lawmakers, this process has worked very well. During the 135th General Assembly (2023-2024) alone, the General Assembly adopted 12 different law changes with support from the Ohio Bar and/or based upon Ohio Bar member ideas. And over the last decade, we’ve seen more than 60 proposals enacted into law.
